Looking to start or grow your butterfly garden? Butterfly Milkweed is an essential, beautiful addition and our top seller!
The Butterfly Milkweed with its showy, orange flowers is natively found throughout the US (except for NV, OR, WA, MT, WY, ND) and blooms well into September.
Its long-blooming nature makes it a great host plant for the Monarch Butterfly. You'll also find that it attracts other pollinators like Honeybees, Bumblebees and even Hummingbirds!
Plant forms clumps up to 3’ in diameter if properly taken care of. Leaves are narrow, so they don't provide the most food for caterpillars, so it is recommended to pair with either Common Milkweed or Showy Milkweed.
Butterfly milkweed can be grown by seed, but it takes about 2-3 years, which is why we'd recommend purchasing established plants instead of just putting down seeds.
Common name is pleurisy root. In the past, the plant roots were medicinally used to treat lung inflammations.
Perfect for sunny borders, butterfly gardens, pollinator gardens or on dry edges of rain gardens.
You will be purchasing a 3" plastic pot containing 1, well-rooted Butterfly Milkweed plant with 1+ nodes of growth that was grown with love in Minnesota from seed. We will try and provide plants with multiple nodes, but it may vary depending on availability. Pictures on this listing are not perfectly representative to what you will be receiving, however, we will do our best to get you the healthiest plant possible.

We recommend planting the early morning or evening you receive your plant to ensure exposure to the elements is minimal. Also to note, we highly encourage that your planting area should match the desired conditions we note above. If not, we can not guarantee survival of your plant.
Shipments to California, Florida and Arizona go through extra scrutiny by each state’s USDA affiliate and Dept of Agriculture, please keep this in-mind before buying.
NOTE: Your plants are shipped at a young age and will likely not have any developed flowers. It is normal to not have fully-developed flowers during the first full season of plant growth.

We are not responsible for the condition of the plant after you receive it. Please message me immediately upon receiving your plant and take a photo of the entire plant in and out of packaging.
