Indian Paintbrush, known as the Prairie-fire plant, is one of the most unique plants we sell. The Indian Paintbrush is an annual or biennial plant that is hemiparasitic.

Hemiparasitic plant roots need host plants, usually grasses, for survival. It is highly recommended that if you're looking for your Indian Paintbrush to survive, you'll want to purchase Sweet Grass or June Grass as a host plant.

Indian paintbrush is a host plant of the Chalcedon Checkerspot, Edith's Checkerspot and of the Theona Checkerspot and is commonly pollinated by the Ruby Throated Hummingbird.

You can find the Scarlet Indian Paintbrush natively east of the Rocky Mountains.
