Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Spring Shipping Work?

We typically begin selling our Spring plants in the fall of the prior year. We only grow a specified amount of each plant variety every year due to limited greenhouse space, so it is important for us to get orders from you ASAP!

Plants ordered for Spring shipment are shipped out to you either in the first or second week of May. You'll receive constant communication with us regarding your shipment, so you'll always know when your plants will arrive!

What sizes are my plants?

Perennial plants arrive between 4” and 12” in height and are typically in 3” pots unless otherwise noted in each product listing. Houseplant size is noted in each product listing.

What is your shipping time for each order?

Shipping time for each order varies. We typically advise customers to allow us 1-3 business days for shipping to ensure that we can continue to offer our low prices. We also ship only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to ensure packages are in transit for the shortest possible time. Please take this into account before ordering. We use USPS and UPS 99% of the time unless otherwise requested by the customer.

Do you offer refunds or replacements?

We rarely offer a refund or replacement if your plant is majorly structurally damaged and it is deemed by our team as being unsalvageable.

This does not include a snapped stem, as plants are still able to grow (and may grow even faster) with a snapped stem as long as there are healthy leaves present and their roots are healthy.

This does not include yellowing leaves. Yellow leaves are common in all stages of plant growth and nearly all plants sold throughout the floral industry have at least 1 yellow leaf. The most common reason for yellowing of leaves is over-watering or a nitrogen deficiency. Both issues will be worked out if planted according to our instructions.

What is your handling time for each order?

Handling time for each order varies. We typically advise customers to allow us 1-3 business days of processing time to ensure we have adequate time to get you the healthiest plants possible. We also ship only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to ensure packages are in transit for the shortest possible time. Please take this into account before ordering.

How do you keep my plants safe?

1. We ensure each plant is well-rooted to make sure recovery and nutritional uptake after shipment is quick.
2. We ship in heavy-duty, corrugated cardboard boxes to protect plants inside.
3. We ship with biodegradable packing material to keep your plants insulated, while also leaving enough air space and circulation.
4. Each box is labeled to indicate live plants are present and instructing post carriers to handle packages with the plants turned right side up. We cannot guarantee warnings will be heeded by USPS or UPS employees.
5. Shipment will be on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and shipped with Priority Mail to ensure the shortest time in transit. We unfortunately can not guarantee shipment times during holiday weeks

My plant looks like it is dying. What do I do?

Upon receiving your plant, it is essential to water your plant immediately and place in a shaded area to acclimate to its new climate for at least 1 day.

If your plant looks like it is wilting after transplant, you may be seeing transplant shock, which happens ~10-25% of the time for houseplants in our experience. This is common and will typically solve itself within 1-4 weeks. Transplanting your plants with a nutrient-dense mix of your surrounding soil and high quality compost will ensure the right nutrients get to your plant roots. We also recommend placing mulch around your plants immediately to regulate soil moisture and water retention. This is critical during late Spring and Summer plantings.

Yellowing of leaves and bent (not broken) stems on perennial plants are normal and should not affect your plant's ability to survive.

If your plant still appears to be struggling after 4 weeks please reach out to us at hello@newleaves.co.

Why doesn’t my plant have flowers?

You are purchasing a plant that is likely less than a year old. Typically, plants exert their energy developing foliage to feed their growing root systems before focusing their energy on creating flowers and seeds.

It’s also important to buy flowerless plants initially so when planted, your plants will be able to focus all of their energy on establishing their roots/foliage and getting used to their new home. Most plants in our shop will typically bloom during the next season.

Do you have wholesale availability?
