This rare native plant is known as one of the most beautiful flowering perennials native to the US. Their 2" lavender and pink flowers bloom for just a couple of weeks in late May to Early June, but their silvery foliage is attractive throughout the spring and summer. They attract bees and hummingbirds at a key time and are host plants for the Chalcedon Checkerspot and Edith's Checkerspot butterflies.
The Large-Flowered Beardtongue is found natively throughout the Midwestern US from the western edge of the Rockies to Eastern Ohio.
